Mornings Like These

Three lanes of traffic, either side of me

I walk the strip, of stillness in between

The first pink clouds are sharp, against the dark

The tail lights leave a shower of red sparks

I fill my lungs with the last of the night

A point of darkness in a blaze of headlights

Free from the fog of desires and regrets

Right now I don’t care that nobody’s left

I’ll remember mornings like these

It won’t be the parties or the lovers or the shows

Only you know, only you know

Searching for fun through the noise and the nerves

No chance of something realin those lonely encounters

The moment of glory that leaves with the crowd

I feel lucid on mornings like these
